We all know Black Friday is coming; the ads in print and on television are becoming more frequent as the days get closer to Friday, November 23rd. If you live in Sedona already or are visiting for the Holiday we would like you to know that Black Friday Shopping is convenient for Sedona residents.

Even though we spend Thanksgiving surrounded by Sedona’s nature and the love of family and friends doesn’t mean that we can’t join the ‘rat race’ to get the best deal on Black Friday. With larger cities close to Sedona AZ, every year that we are in Sedona we make sure we set our alarms early the day after Thanksgiving.

Cities where Sedona Residents can Black Friday Shop:

  • Cottonwood AZ: Only a 30 minute drive to Walmart & Home Depot
  • Flagstaff AZ & Prescott AZ: Driving 45 minutes to an hour will center you around a selection of department stores including, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Best Buy, a variety of furniture stores, etc.
  • Phoenix AZ: Two hours south of Sedona is Arizona’s capital city full of stores hosting Black Friday Sales. If you wake up early enough to drive to Phoenix, the shopping possibilities are endless!

#70 – Uptown Sedona: Trick or Treat?

In a day and age where door to door Trick-or-Treating is frowned upon, we feel fortunate to live in Sedona. The Main Street Project has the shops of Uptown Sedona come together and provide a safe and fun environment for families to collect their candy. Store owners and employees dress up and play into the carousing of All Hallows Eve!

Looking back, some of our most cherished Halloween memories have been in Uptown Sedona between 5pm – 8pm. We would like to encourage all of you with families to stroll the Uptown area of SR 89A and enjoy seeing the pure joy and excitement on your children’s faces as they collect their candy or provide a scare to store owners if they are asked for a “trick”.

With our family very close, we are saddened that our grandson cannot experience this great tradition this year.  While we know he is going through the streets in Texas with his parents we can’t help but want to share our Uptown Sedona Trick or Treating with him. Alexander is two years old this Halloween and is dressed as a pirate. If you are proud of your costume please post a photo to our Facebook.

If your family is grown like ours or you have help to put the kids to bed so you can enjoy your night, the adult’s only party starts well into the night. In the Village of Oak Creek, at PJ’s Pub, the Pub turns up the thrill around midnight. PJ’s is known for their highly competitive costume contest and like always, great live entertainment. If you are wanting to have a memorable night out in Sedona there is no better place than PJ’s Pub on Halloween!

With Halloween just around the corner Sedona’s mild fall temperatures make it easy to get in the mood for one of our favorite holidays. A large part of our family’s tradition has been to go to the Sedona United Methodist Church located at the Back-O-Beyond roundabout on State Route 179 to pick a pumpkin to take home and turn it into a spooky jack-o-lantern. The pumpkin patch is open daily from 12-6pm starting on the 15th of October and open through Halloween.

If you want a more unique pumpkin picking experience the Sedona Community Pool has recently started their own festive event. It entails encouraging residents to take a dive to retrieve their ‘orange gourd’. This event takes place on October 20 from 1-3pm for a small fee of $3 and is located at 570 Posse Ground Road.

With many of you coming from parts of the country that are already colder than you would like, the thought of putting on a swimming suit and diving into a pool this close to Halloween may be a fantasy. For us here in the desert southwest, we are fortunate enough to have days during the fall where the sun is out, the skies are clear and a (heated) swimming pool is still an option.
